Now am not sure whether to power wash, acid wash, or chlorine spray the plaster and then wash it down to the deep end submersible pump to clean the brown off. Our pool is in its 3rd year now and has been acid washed once before for plaster color issues.

My original plan was to just put some chlorine in a pump sprayer, spray the sides and bottom, then wash it down and pump out.

What are your thoughts?

You’de be better off filling it back up and doing the SLAM process. Don’t acid wash or power wash it as both can cause damage.

Day 1 after drain: my wife and I teamed up to brush the algae off the sides and bottom as the other sprayed it down to the pump in the deep end. There’s a good amount of staining and algae stubbornly stuck to the plaster.

Today, I plan to hit the stubborn areas with chlorine and immediately spray it down with water. We’ll then fill it back up and SLAM.

I appreciate your input on the power washer. We are just using a garden hose given that advice.

Day 2: Put 50/50 chlorine/water in a pump sprayer, sprayed down the walls and bottom, then brushed and washed it down. We then had to keep spraying and pumping water out, eventually using a shop vac at the deep end to get the rest of the muck out. The walls and bottom are lightly stained here and there, and we're hoping that SLAM and low pH with some brushing will take care of that.

Day 3: Pool still filling with water, vacuumed out the skimmers as both were nasty after sitting all winter. Pool has filled about 3/4 of the way, dropped a gallon of liquid chlorine in and brushed. Plugged all the equipment up properly and planning to fill up to the skimmers tomorrow and start circulating through the system.
