Does "maintain" literally mean maintain?

I'm in the process of my first SLAM. Does shock level literally need to be maintained for a successful SLAM? I started testing and adding chlorine every couple of hours at the beginning of the process during the weekend. However, I work during the week so I have about 9-10 hours I can't check. I've been bringing FC to shock level 16 before I leave in the morning and it was 5 when I got home today.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain
If you can - especially at the beginning of the SLAM Process- test and add every few hours.
With work and other commitments, sometimes that isn't possible, just do the best you can.
But like realistically how far should fc drop below shock level before bringing it back up.
Like I just tested two hours after bringing fc to 16 and it was 12.5. Does that mean i should be checking every hour? Or is two hours fine with that kind of drop?

Every 2-4 hours to start. After the first day or two, the FC levels should hold a bit better.
As long as the FC level stays above minimum for your CYA, the algae is being killed. Just not very quickly as the FC levels go below SLAM.
