Do SWG add-ons corrode hot tub innards

The salt level in pools/hot-tubs is very low - between 2-3 ppt. Ocean water is 35 ppt. Most pools after a year or 2 running will measure between 1-2 ppt salt. Most people usually cannot taste the salt in the water. So the answer is "no", the small amount of salt needed to operate a SWG will not add any appreciable corrosion over just using "water". Check out he below link to seasonal and temporary pools, which is a good method for operating your hot-tub.

ss,

I have been running saltwater in my hot tub, since I bought it used, a little over two years ago... I have had no issues at all, but since the innards are inside, I'm not sure how I would know.. :)

My salt level is about 2400 ppm for my "over the shoulder" Saltron Mini salt system.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Logically, I agree that is seems unlikely given the low level of salt a SWG uses. I had one for a couple of years in my swim spa and it was really convenient in keeping the chlorine level steady and I never saw any problems caused by it. However, when we recently move homes (and move the swim spa with us). I quit using the SWG just because there is so much conflicting info out there. I opted instead to set up a small dosing pump to add chlorine to the spa on a regular basis. It was easy to set up, cost less than the SWG and is working great in keeping my chlorine level steady. I just have to add chlorine based on the bather load when the spa is used.

Andrew, Can you share the name (or names) and sources of the dosing pump, and info on these? Also, are they powered by batteries, or do they need AC current? Thanks, Daniel
