The following is hypothetical and somewhat in jest but if actually plausible who knows ;).

As stated in sig i have a 16k gal vinyl pool. I also have a 2m btu heater and 500 gal propane tank i have access to for free. Heater in its intended use has a big fan behind it and could be setup if needed(200amp service panel). How would one build a heat exchanger on a burner of this size to heat a pool? Would it melt the vinyl coming out the returns?

Pics of your 2m btu heater?

2m btu heater is 5X a 400k heater. A 400K heater will heat a 16k pool 3-5 degrees an hour. I don’t think 5X will be that hot. You need the right size heat exchanger and water flow rate to not boil the water in the heat exchanger. Properly engineered I think it is doable.
