Dig Day November 28!

What does your written contract state for pumps and other equipment?

Contract should stipulate exact manufacturer, model number and quantity.
The contract says 2.7HP, but the email from them says Jandy VSSHP270DV2A 2.7 HP - which is what they delivered for the pool, but not the features. I'm less concerned about the actual pump - if this smaller pump is acceptable for the features, then I am fine with that. I haven't paid for equipment yet so they can take off $1k or whatever it is.

I just have no idea how to mess with what was delivered to see if it is acceptable.

Make them install what the contract states.
Having the VS 2.7 on the features circuit as well will allow you to adjust the flow based on what features you hafe on and the look you want (within reason). With a single speed pump, you are just stuck with what you see now.

Additionally, having the same pump on the circulation side and feature side will allow you to swap pumps quickly when one fails.

Got another question unrelated to the pumps. Someone from the company came yesterday to run through the Jandy app with us. While testing Spa mode, the pool started draining, so he said he adjusted the actuator, and that fixed the draining - however, now there is an issue with the spa spillover - one of them looks fine, and one barely comes out. How can I fix this?

Video of the spillover (uploaded to YouTube):

Pictures of the equipment are attached.

It appears they must not be at the same level because it's just free flow that pulls the water over. When you have more water returning to the spa and the right scupper has water in it, if there is enough flow then you might not notice the difference between the two scuppers. But when there is barely enough flow, the highest scupper won't drain, as you can see.

Agreed. The spillovers aren’t at the same level. What rpm was the pump running in the video? Maybe you can turn it up and make it look better.

Thanks, both - I'll take a laser level out there tonight and see how things look and report back - if they're uneven, then I guess it's not too tough of a fix.

Pump is 1750 in the pic. It does look better when I raise it to 3k rpm, but that's not an acceptable "fix".

If you have some clear tubing a water level is another surprisingly accurate and simple way to check levels.

Maybe I need to look into this. Laser level was kind of hard to use but it reads level - however, when in the pool and looking at the two spillovers, one does look visually higher than the other.

We would expect the side with less flow to be higher in elevation than the other side. Is this what the laser level indicated?

From inside the spa, the level seems to indicate the left side (dribble) is slightly higher, on the outside, they look level.

The inside measurements to waterline are kinda too close to discern.

Well our pool finally was completed - salt was added about a week ago. Chlorine won't stay steady so I checked the equipment today and I'm getting this message. Anyone familiar?

Our pool has been done for about 6 months now and we have some significant erosion of grout between the limestone coping and porcelain tile.
The pool builder is coming back to address under warranty, but I'm assuming they'll just regrout. What's the best long term solution?

Some of our limestone is also cracking or chipping. What's the best way to address that?

Welcome to the wonderful world of GA heaving clay. Its really hard to prevent cracks and such in any masonry here. Be glad its the grout lines only. Sure its a PITA, but better than a giant crack in tile, or finished concrete. Unfortunately there is not much you can do to prevent it.

See the below thread on expansion joints...

You should have some type of flexible material between your coping and decking material to seal the joint and allow some flex. Usually Sika flex or Deck O Seal are referenced on the forum for this application.
