Did my OmniLogic PL die?

There are 2 versions of the Omni PL. The Pro and Plus. The pro has 1 green LSBUS in the top left corner and the plus has 1 in the top left and I think 2 more right next to it. The pro has the dc converter integrated on the board where the plus has it on the right as a separate board.
Based on your description, it was the Pro.

Just an update to all. Turned out Hayward would not replace it under warranty. This was definitely expected as you can see one of the chips was taken out by a surge.

Two questions for you guys:

Would you guys recommend a Type 1 surge protector on the panel itself? I had my power company come out and install one on the meter.

Does anyone know of any companies that repair these boards/chips? Just looking to re-coop some of the money I spent.

Thanks all.

Yes.

Try...

if the firmware is not available then replacing the chip won't do any good, but can you read the numbers off of it? i'm wondering if it's a Microchip pic or an Atmega

There are no numbers on the chip, or any of the chips. They are all glossy black. There are numbers on the board itself though. It appears to say U1 under this chip.

There's got to be numbers on the chip... It's very rare that a manufacturer doesn't mark them. You may need the right light angle and a magnifier. And the glossy black is a conformal coating... It's kindof flaked off by the burn hole. If you get a q-tip and some alcohol I bet you can get enough off to see the numbers.

That worked.
