I have an 18 round salt water semi in ground pool. The other morning my landscapers ride on
mover scrapped across the side of the pool.

What should I expect near and long term?
Issues from something like this happening?

My understanding is that the paint protects the steel wall from rusting. The scratched area is now open and exposed to the elements and could rust out quicker. Hopefully a TFP expert will come along and comment as to whether this is correct.

Yes, paint protects metal. Your landscaper just opened up a big ol' gash of potential rust in the side of your pool.

Get a can of exterior paint ASAP. Or paint the scrape with transparent Rustoleum. You need to get protection on there soonest. I can't address the dent, you may have to live with that. But get that scrape painted as soon as you can.
