Well, back to your original question about cleaning/inspecting the sand & filter internals…
You don’t have any unions so if you do attempt it you’ll need to cut the pipes at which time I suggest you install unions on the straight run areas for ease of future maintenance.

The intermittent clacking makes me think there’s something loose in there. Definitely check that impeller yourself.
