Dedicated Spa pump VS or single speed

For my 8x8 spa I am having a dedicated pump for just the jets. Would you recommend a single speed or variable speed? Also, what HP to have good power for 10 jets assuming I don’t want to run my blower.

Welcome to the forum!

You might want to read this first:

The government now limits the size and type of pump you can purchase. It is hard to find large single speed pumps anymore so more than likely you will need a VS pump.

But with 10 Jets, unless they are very low flow rate jets, you will likely need two pumps. Have you picked out the spa jets yet and do you know the flow rate requirements for each?

Also, the size of the pump does not determine if you can run without a blower. It is the design of the air pipe system that will determine that. A Hartford loop is a must in most applications unless the air line runs uphill to the pump.

What is the distance from spa to pump?

What is the elevation change from spa water surface to pump?

The current plan would be to use polystorm directional 5-scallop. 229-8050. I think they are 1/4”, 9gpm. That said I know very little about spa jet nozzles and maybe these are not ideal? Please let me know your thoughts.

The equipment pad will most likely be 36” below the spa coping. Making it lower or higher is a possibility if it’s needed but 36” or lower makes it easier in some ways because of my yard elevations.

The equipment pad will be about 60-65 feet away from my spa.

Thank you for your recommendations

I think those are 5/16" 10 GPM jets:

Assuming a dedicated Intelliflo3, 65' of 3" pipe to/from the spa jets and 10 x 5/16" jets, the pump should be able to deliver close to 119 GPM or a little less than 12 GPM/jet which is good for a strong jet.

Going to a larger jet would make them feel stronger but you would either need to reduce the count or go with a second pump loop. Larger jets require more flow rate but feel stronger too.
