New here. My total alkalinity is 207 and ph is 7.7. I need to significantly lower alkalinity without decreasing ph too much. Looking for advice. I added dry acid and it brought alkalinity down from 280 to 207. It dropped ph very low. Added soda ash and it increased ph but also alkalinity.

and dry acid is not good for your SWG…

You need a proper test kit.

You probably don't need a dedicated effort to lower TA. Just add MA to manage pH and let the TA come down with each MA addition.

I added dry acid
Don't use dry acid. Use muriatic acid instead.

It dropped ph very low.
Keep your pH in the 7s.

Added soda ash
You shouldn't have. pH will naturally rise, especially with low pH and high TA. Under normal circumstances, you should never need to add soda ash or baking soda.
