Yep. Removing the tree opens up the space more and allows for more deck around the pool. With this new option, I'm also tweaking my design.

While cost might be prohibitive what about getting a tree spade in to dig up the tree and replant it elsewhere on your property.
If you're thinking you need shade near the pool, put in several umbrella posts so you can have "leafless shade". Much easier to clean up.

And you can add pretty colored umbrellas and chairs.
Good choice removing the tree. The hardest thing about my pool build was removing two big shady Chinese Pistache trees we had in our yard. Now I do not miss them even a tiny bit.
