Deck Supports

I’m planning a new IG vinyl build next year. Trying to finalize the kit options and I’m torn on whether to include deck supports. I’m planning to do a travertine or paver deck with cantilever coping and it doesn’t seem like deck supports would be much use in this situation. On the other hand, alternatively I’m also considering doing a poured concrete coping for a small margin (maybe 16-24”) around the pool and then pavers for the rest of the deck, and in this case I think deck supports might be beneficial. Does anyone have any opinions on the importance of deck supports in either of these two scenarios? Also, any opinion between the two coping options? Thanks!

I don't understand how you can do cantilevered coping with a travertine of paver deck.

Deck supports are metal braces attached to the pool walls every 6’ (minimum), meant to provide secondary support for pool decks. They’ve been around forever; I remember the PB that built my mom’s pool in the late 90’s used them and they are offered as an option in every pool kit I’ve looked at.

I don’t have a drawing at this moment regarding paver coping but it’s very common. The cantilever liner track sold with the kit is specifically made for concrete or pavers. Here’s a link to a thread on this forum discussing the details of this type of deck:

You are using “cantilever” in different context. You first talk about cantilevered coping. Then in the reply above you talk about cantilever liner track. This is where drawings showing what you actually plan on doing versus words would be helpful.

Paver coping needs to sit on something to be supported. Cantilevered means to be suspended in the air above something.

There are many techniques builders use for the interface between the deck, the coping, the pool wall, and the liner track. You have a bunch of different surfaces and materials all coming together.
