Filling it up till 3" is in the shallow end per PB instructions.

After unpacking and installing the Volleyball net I noticed it has several small tears in it, waiting to hear back from the manufacturer about what they are going to do for me...

Monday they started installing the fence fit for a fortress. It's gonna be about 7'5" or so at the tops of the arch between posts....They should be back today to finish....

I'm going to have them slap some 2x4's on the part of the fence enclosing the pool equipment, the 3 sections where you don't see the structure of the fence, so it matches everything else. We plan to store pool stuff in that fenced in area with the equipment.

I am curious to what you did about the cantilever and the corners? Are the cutting them out and putting bricks in? Repour?
Nope. I don't want brick coping (all the joints annoy my wet feet) I'm waiting to meet with the owner, and at this point all that I want is not to pay for the coping. I don't want it cut out and redone, because I don't want the joint between coping and deck. I've now seen several pools built in this style, where there is no issue with cracking at that juncture, and the coping is smooth (unlike mine). So i know it could have been done like this perfectly, alas it was not.

I have talked to some kitchen re modelers who pour concrete counter tops and have confirmed that my idea about polishing/grinding the rough surface is viable. A search for rock polishing equipment provides all kinds of options for equipment to accomplish the task. I would demand that they do this, but like i said earlier i don't trust them to do a good job with it. Doing it myself is the only way i will get the results i want, short of re-pouring the entire upper deck.

The pool builder also has the "i've waited so long i just want it to be done" homeowner mind control working in his advantage.

Additionally at this point i'm more concerned with them getting the wrinkles out of the steps.....we will see when i get home tonight.

Are the fence posts shorter than the slats?

They are indeed. It's a new style of fence, do you not like it? No, no no just kidding, they have yet to cut the slats in the final shape. They will take a piece of PVC pipe, put one end at the top of a post, push the middle of the PVC up and then put the other end of the PVC on the other post, then draw a line where the PVC is, creating an Arc. Then they cut the arc. You see the old fence in those pics, that's how the new fence will look when they finish.

Harley,

I hope your contractor helps out at least with a monetary figure if you plan on polishing the edges yourself. I cant see how you would polish out what they did in the corners, but I wish you the best on that. You may want to consider putting in Brick, Marble or some other natural stone at the corners to alleviate this- I know you don't like the joint, but its better than getting cut up on those rough corners, and having the seem will allow movement between the deck and coping and probably save you a few cracks.

Whatever you end up doing, your pool is beautiful, and I am sure you are excited about using it!!!

Okay, PB sent his pool girl out, my testing with my fancy kit yields the following...

16 PPM FC
2.5 CC
18.5 TC
70 TA
140 CA
0 CYA

She said don't swim in it tonight, can I?

PB is going to "hand rub" coping in attempt to make it less rough. This is after only the one comment to him asking if it is normal, well see. No comment from him on corners yet.

Wrinkles are all gone, he also decided to raise the permanent water level to 1/2" below top of skimmer opening, seems high but I'll see how skimmer functions.

Whatcha think?

Do you have any CYA in the pool?

I haven't reread the whole thread so I can't remember why your FC is so high.....perhaps too high for a vinyl lined pool with no CYA
Pool has been filling for 3 days, then sat for 2 with no Chems. Salt is 2900 ppm. They are shocking it apparently.

Test shows no CYA, fill tube up still see dot clearly.

Water temp 85F

Hmmm. I sure would have liked to see them do that a little differently but I assume they are savvy. FC of 17ppm with NO CYA (that's the kicker) is VERY aggressive and I wouldn't have suggested that. Done is done, however

Do they plan on introducing CYA in your pool or is that your responsibility?

I have had no disscusions regarding the addition of chemicals. If they are aware of it I'm sure they'll be adding it...

If they don't then I'll go rouge as soon as I can...

The receipt I got showed they did test for stabilizer and it was zero. Is that CYA? I'll post the receipt when I have a chance to edit out personal info...

Volleyball company is sending new net, and told me to keep old one since it's a custom width. That satisfies me but at the same time I like people to make their money. I guess they can't do anything with it anyways.

FC now 7
No CC
I read pool school, but it's been a few weeks.

I thought i couldn't trust PH readings with high FC. And CYA won't show up yet in testing will it?

FC has probably gone further down over the past 3 hours, hot And full sun.

Water temp 88

Good point on the ph with high FC, but now that it is lower tha 10 ppm you should test ph again and your result should be valid.

If you have added cya, how? I was reading you post as if no cya has been added. If it is the granualar type, then it can take up to a week to show in the test. I would ask to be in the loop for any chemicals they add.

FC 1
CC 0
PH between 7.8 and 8.2

They added "stabilizer" which is supposed to be CYA, still doesn't show up by testing, and apparently is not working yet if i lost all of the "shock" that was put in

SWCG is set to 50%, it was on super chlorinate mode for like 22 hrs, that has stopped.

I put a call into the PB to see if i should turn up SWCG.

They are leaving a document with each "pool person" visit stating Chem levels and actions taken, so I am pleased with that, IOW they are keeping ME in the loop as to what exactly is added.

I can't wait for them to turn it over to me, i'd like to know how the pool lady is calculating the amount of chems to add, i wonder what sort of version of the Pool Calculator they use....if any.....we swam all day will no ill effect except maybe some faded shorts and dry skin....

Pool Builder called me back last night and said bump the SWCG up to 60%, I set it on 70%.

This morning test results:
FC 3.5
CC .5
TA 70
CH 170 and it was pink, not red. Are pink and red the same thing, or is red red and pink pink?
PH 7.8
Water Temp 84F on pool panel, 86F on Therm in skimmer basket

Why is there not a more accurate PH test? Or is there?
