So it’s my understanding that cya doesn’t evaporate with the water at night. So I generally have to add around 10ppm every 2 weeks or so? Is this normal? Now my pool is full sun all day, no wind blocks so I do get a lot of evaporation at times. Also it gets used at least 3 times a week

You mentioned previously that your wife does pool store testing because you're away often, so I have to ask if that's based upon your own testing or the pool store testing?

20ppm per month of degradation seems excessive. If you have a sand filter, you also lose CYA when you backwash. Any process where water is physically removed and not evaporated.

My water in phoenix hits 90 degrees through much of the summer and I don't lose even 10ppm a month.

Both, they seem close I always test on my own before asking here.

I've seen 20ppm difference in the AZ summers. And remember, the test could easily be off by +/- 10 - so part of the loss could be testing error..
