Is there a chemical in the black dot at the bottom of the tube? Or is this simply a black color that fades with the cloudiness of the test water? What I'm asking... does the test tube get old and need replaced? We are on our 4th year.

Just a black dot. It is a sticker on the bottom of the vial. Turn it over. Should be OK as long as it does not get damaged.

No chemical...just a dot. Yes the tube occasionally gets cloudy after a few years but easily replaced from TFTestkits.net
Make sure you rinse well after testing. I've also started to use a little rubbing alcohol on my testing tubes and rinsing. It makes them clean up nice. I'm keeping a small squirt bottle of it with the test kit, and after rinsing I dry the big ones out with the paper towel I put underneath while testing.

Thank you. I was filling the tube and still seeing the dot so that confirms it is very low and I will adjust.
