My CYA level is sitting at 60 right now. I was about to drain 20% of the water to bring it down to 50 when I thought I'd ask you guys what CYA level would be best for HOT S.TX sun. Thanks!
Well, my answer depends on how you chlorinate your water?
If you have a salt water generator, your CYA should be around 80.
If you dose daily with bleach or liquid chlorine, you should consider 50 a good place assuming your pool gets a lot of sun in the summer.
At this time of year if the pool is spotlessly free of any algae, I'd just leave it alone and see if it lowers on its own a bit by spring. Then decide if you need to raise or lower it more.
Our general recommendations don't mention that folks in those hot sunny climes often need a touch higher CYA than folks in the Northeast, for example.
^^ Yep ^^ I keep mine around 60 in the summer. By now, I let it slowly fall down since the FC demand and protection isn't as intense as in the summer. You should be fine.
