CYA - can you lose it?

Any insights on why my CYA is dropping although I am adding more? We did have a few (2 inches?) of rain during that storm around July 4th but I also added more after that....
I think it is because of the heavy rains we have had. Also, early spring, we were losing a lot of water through evaporation, so I was refilling quite a bit. I've had a tough time keeping my CYA above 60.

Yes, that' what I suspected based on past experience, however, we didn't get much rain despite a few thunderstorms coming through (e.g., while our next town get 5 inches, we got less than an inch). I didn't have to drain / waste water much this season so far, hence my questions. Plus, I added more after some rain yet CYA actually decreased....a bit strange this season.

As for the evaporation, we have a solar cover which we use most of the time and no significant evaporation so far.

Thanks for the feedback!

But evaporation and then refill shouldn't affect CYA level though - right?

When the water evaporates the CYA will stay in the remaining water (you are only loosing water to evaporation). When you refill you are just adding water. CYA didn't go anywhere.

Now if you drain water - yes you are draining the CYA with the water.
