Is testing cya during the slam accurate?

Yes. Though you should not have to test for it. Test FC during a SLAM. No real reason to test the other levels. Unless you have done a very large water exchange to fresh.

I started my slam yesterday and my CYA was 20. I added a little bit of dry chemical to it, but wondered if I needed to monitor it until it reaches 30?

Then test your CYA level in a few days. Assume you have 30 in the pool now for SLAM purposes. How are you testing your pool water chemistry? Please add what test kit you use to your signature.
