Thank you reggiehammond. 2 questions, sir:1. Do you think it would be safer on my exposed pool to do this drain and refill during the night since Texas sun is so intense? 2. Refill the pool with garden hoses? And/ or will the auto fill on my pool accomplish this once I turn the water line back on to my pool? Or would you recommend multiple garden hoses + turning my auto fill on all at the same time to refill as quickly as possible?
If you are draining and then filling as opposed to the no drain exchange, you will get the fastest draining with a 1.5" Hose that clamps onto the pump.
You will need to use a garden hose to fill. Multiple if you have a couple faucets you can reach from. The auto fills are a very slow fill rate.

What’s all the talk about “risk” to the vinyl or pool surface when draining due to the heat etc?Is this something I am going to do and ruin my pool or get in over my head? AND do I need to scrub anything while taking advantage of this ? Or should I hire a pro..wife would get upset at me if I messed up our pool

Vinyl pools have a liner that can shift if emptied too far. Gunnite pools can get pushed out of the ground if the water table is very high and the pool water weight was the only thing holding it in place. As you're not draining fully, neither of these would be a huge concern. The only aspect that you might want to consider is that the pool plaster is normally wet, so it's better to avoid letting it dry out completely.
So speed is the name of the game, here. Pump it out as fast as possible (perhaps purchase 2 pumps) and then fill it with as many sources as possible.

my Taylor kit shows over 100 CYA and my aqua check strips read probably 150. How many gallons of chlorine should I be putting in my pool for safe swimming? I’ve got 5 gallons now. I’m thinking that should slam it enough to get me through the weekend? I’ll drain the pool water in the fall…

Don’t bother talking to us about test strips.
FC should be around 12.5% of CYA.
For CYA > 90ppm, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:
- Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark (15 ml line) with pool water.
- Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark (30 ml line) with tap water.
- Shake briefly to mix.
- Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark (15 ml line).
- Continue the test normally from adding R-0013, but multiply the final result by two.

I think I understand now one of the major reasons cya needs to be kept around 50:
at 110-150 cya, it’s going to cost a lot in liquid chlorine to keep the FC levels at a safe level to swim.
