Good morning, I am preparing for a gathering on Sunday and tested the water in the pool to be prepared. Here are my current levels. Should I be concerned about my PH? the color looks to be darker then 8, not sure if photo is any help.

FC-4 adding LC now.
CC - 0
PH - 8, possibly higher. I added R5 and it took 1 drop to get a closer match just below 7.8
TA - 120
CH - 340
CYA - 50

thank you for you advice.

okay. I was hoping I didn't have to mess with MA but I guess it was bound to happen. I read somewhere about which MA option to select in pool math but can't find out. Which should I use?

also, I understand I am suppose to fill the bucket with water first, then add MA slowly, then pour in to pool? Can I pour MA directly in front of jets, using an old glass jar?

I also just added LC, how long should I wait to add the MA, and will we be able to use pool on Sunday after adding MA?

Marciano,

We recommend pouring MA into the pool in front of an operating return or jet... We do not recommend using glass of any kind.. If you drop it, and it breaks, where is the glass going to go? How would you get it out of the pool as it will be hard to spot.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Don't premix the acid. The more you handle it, the more likely it is to splash or spill. Also the more likely you are to breathe the fumes. I see it taking about 3½ cups of 31% acid. Close to a quart. You can probably eyeball that much. Just carry it over poolside (if there's a choice of returns, pick the upwind one) and pour it into the return stream.

If you want to measure, use plastic measuring cups and pour it into the cup over the return in case of spills, then tip the cup. Rinse the cup in the pool when you're done. If you've been waiting for replies, enough time has elapsed after adding bleach.

15 minutes after adding LC you can add MA. 15 minutes after that go swimming.

The most economical MA to buy is 31.45% strength. If you are nervous about it, you can get the 14.5% strength. Same price, half the active ingredient. Sold at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

okay, I had an open bottle of 33% MA blue whale brand. It was probably about 2.5 cups, may 3 cups of MA. This stuff is nasty!!!!!

I wore all my protection including nose/face mask, protective eye wear, acid proof gloves and still could smell the product. I kept my head turned away as I poured in front of each jet, 4 jets total and try to avoid the direction of the breeze blowing. Now I have a weird taste in my mouth.

I know I can't toss the empty 1 gallon bottle in the trash, how do you all recycle the empties?

many thanks!! I will test the PH again in a few hours.

good morning and thanks again for all the great help.

today will be a day of lots of swimming for about 5 kids and several adults. The PH is now at 7.6 and FC at 6. I added 42oz of LC to raise FC to 8 for now.

I should increase FC higher, knowing it will drop with all the swimming today? I also read that I may have to add more MA the following day as it will increase due to the swimmers, etc...

thanks,

8 should be good. 10 wouldn't be extreme. You will want to get to 10 or better after everyone clears out tonight.

The pH may go up enough that you want to lower it tomorrow. That's the beauty of having your own test kit --- you will know in a matter of seconds. Probably faster than it would take to gather a sample and walk to the car to haul it to the pool store!

Good morning and happy Memorial Day. So after an all day of swimming for at least 7 hours by kids/adults I definitely noticed the cloudy water.
At 8 pm I added LC to mix before the pump turned off.

As of this am the FC is at 17, I guess I added way to much LC. Is this a safe level to be in water or should we wait until FC drops further? There will be more swimming today. The sun will be in the water soon for about 6 hours.

PH is also back up to where it was yesterday so I am adding more MA, about 2 cups to lower again. Is it fine to add MA when FC is this high? Thanks

Thanks CYA is 50, just checked it.

So when i did the FC test I added water to 10m line, 1 scope of dpd and it took 34 drop to clear the water sample and divided by 2 to get 17.

So with my cya at 50, even with my FC at 17 I am good for use since I haven’t passed the 20 Slam level? Is my understanding correct? I want it to drop further so i can retest for PH.

Thanks
