Hi all, I am having some scaling in my swg and finding some flakes in the pool that I assume as somewhat normal. I have a fiberglass pool and an electric heat pump, and my current chemistry is:
Fc: 3.5
Cya: between 40-50
Ch: 275
Water temperature: 89
Ph: 7.4
Alkalinity: 80
Salinity: 3600

With the above results I get a csi of -0.39. I was thinking about taking the csi above -0.3 but maintaining in negative territory and was thinking of adding calcium hardness to help me achieve that as I am at the low end of recommended for fiberglass (although mid range based on equipment manufacturer). My question is: will raising calcium hardness worsen calcium flakes even if I stay in negative csi territory? Or should I leave as is? I was thinking of increasing CH to around 325-350 and that would take me to a csi of -0.3.
Thanks!

I would not raise the CH. No need at all. And it will worsen any scaling you are seeing from the SWCG.

It is odd you are getting any scaling with those parameters. What SWCG do you have? Completing your signature always helps us provide guidance.

Just added it to my signature thanks. It’s an ichlor30. I started having issues this year because the store tests were showing very low alkalinity so I ended up adding a lot. I now have a proper test kit and drained part of water so much more balanced now. I think the scaling is getting better now, but was a bit nervous about the csi being at -0.4 consistently

I think you added it to your profile - on the left side of your posts.
Signature info is here: https://www.troublefreepool.com/account/signature - and displays below your posts.

Let your pH rise to the upper 7's and your CSI will rise a little as well.
