Crooked Plaster on benches & steps-how can I tell if I got a botched job or it’s standard?

We just had our pool plastered with a NPT Polishedscapes finish.

We have several benches and steps around the pool. The edges did not turn out as straight as I was hoping for. I have no way to gauge whether it is standard for this to happen or if the installers were not as careful as they should have been.

The owner of the plaster company explained that it is a hand application & there are no tools on the market to make sure it goes on straight.

I am not looking for perfect, however, it was the first thing I noticed when I looked in my brand new pool :( In my pictures it is not as noticeable, there is a step into the pool that was supposed to be square and it is definitely not anymore. (Gunite was nice and square)

Anyone with plaster or polished plaster have any thoughts on if this looks typical or not?IMG_8366.jpegIMG_8525.jpegIMG_8324.jpegIMG_8391.jpeg

Welcome to TFP.

Yeah, it could be better. Quality depends on the crew you get and their mood that day.

No one is going to be checking your pool surfaces with a level and square while they enjoy your pool.

It's a real shame to see the poor quality of some workmanship today. And there is a dearth of oversight for the tradesmen to avoid issues at the time they are corrected. Hand trowelled work can easily be made straight by craftsmen that care, but they do have to care about their work.

Good, because perfect is an illusion. A great many things that appear perfect are far from it when light hits it the right way.

To help swallow the imperfections, we call it 'character'. I assure you that all pools have their own character, some more than others. I can also assure you that you'll be the only one to notice 99.9% of your pools character. Anyone who visits will be too busy going 'WOOHOO it a POOL!!!' to care. :)
