Crackling sound in pool

Crackling sound in pool.
we have a 33,000 gallon inground pool. It was resurfaced three years ago.
Recently we started hearing a crackling type of sound (kind of like sea coral )while walking around the entire pool When we turn the pump off the sound stops. When you turn the pump back on the sound restarts after a minute or so

any idea??

Do you hear the crackling sound specifically when walking around the pool or when standing anywhere near the pool? How close to the pool do you need to be to hear it? Is the volume the same in all places?

Do you have any bubbles coming out of the returns?

Where is your equipment pad located relative to the pool?

I hear the crackling pretty consistently walking around the entire pool. At about 6 to 7 inches from the pool you can hear it.

yes there are bubbles coming out of the return and the pump is about 15 feet away from the pool. Volume appears to be uniform throughout

No change in crackling sound weather in or outside of the pool. Hayward sand filter. Pressure is about 12
