The pvc Elbow from pump discharge to the filter cracked. This section of pipe was replaced 6 months ago when the pump casing cracked. I purchased new schedule 40 PVC and various fittings however I noticed the old pvc pipe seems cheap and thin walled compared to the new pvc from home depot. Is there any reason why I should not use the new thicker PVC in this area?

I am curious,usually the gray pipe is for electrical or was it painted?

You'll have to confirm by checking the markings on the fitting itself, but It's likely a DWV (Drain/Waste/Vent) fitting, not designed for pressurized systems.
The pump casing cracked 6 months ago, and pentair replaced it under warranty, the pipe from pump was replaced because they stressed it when tightening the flange but causing it to leak at the elbow. Now the elbow has a crack on top. They used white pvc parts and painted them black.
Change it all out with schd 40 pipe and fittings. The schd40 fittings have 66% deeper glue sockets and are marked as such
Okay thanks. My neighbor is former Navy Boiler Tech with pool repair experience, and he is going to help me redo the layout of pipes, so the weight wont be stressing out the elbow.
