Converting to chlorine from PermaSalt

Ok. I had to go back a recread my post. I did add some at 530am this morning. Was groggy still I guess. That was the bump in numbers. That omission in listing that in my post is on me. Sorry.

I have been writing down all times and amounts.

I corrected for a 500 gallon error in calculated pool gallons yesterday after a member had me question my pool capacity to 13,500 from 14,000. Not huge but still.

I’m just having a hard time deciding on how I feel about this SLAM thing given that my water has been glass clear for 3 weeks solid now but this test seems it will never end. I never knew the money would be over the top on chlorine. This is a very expensive thing to do. And I’m slightly concerned about the high chlorine levels affecting my liner such as pebbling/alligator the texture and causing wrinkles over time.

The expense is got me feeling uneasy.

The CC for at least 2weeks has been virtually zero or .2. Most times the 0003 second part of test doesnt even turn pink. Saves me one drop of 0871.
Which I’m going to have to buy more. Got plenty of powder just on last bottle of 0871.

One advantage of poolmath is that everyone here can read the log and help advise. You have something eating chlorine but its hard for me to follow when/how much, algaecides, etc. Losing 4-5 during the day is normal. Losing that much at night is not. I also still worry you’re overshooting the FC additions for a higher CYA level than you really have, which ends up burning through excessive chlorine like you’re seeing.

If you decide to stop the SLAM, let the FC go down to high end of normal level and see how much FC is lost overnight. Just be very vigilant to make sure it doesnt get below the minimum. It’s your call though.

Test Results 07-07-2024 @ 12:00 PM
------------------------------------------
Free Chlorine: 20.5
Combined Chlorine: 0.2
pH: 7.6
Total Alkalinity: 110
Calcium Hardness: 220
CYA: 60
Temperature: 88°F
CSI: 0.01

Corrected gallons value.
Chlorine not added yet. I have 6 gallons left out of 15 from Friday.
Seems ph has risen. TA just tested at same 120.
Yep, i see it. Be careful on your testing. You have a FC of 0.5 resolution and CC reading with 0.2. One of them is wrong. For future reference, theres never any reason to use the 0.2ppm version. Stick with the 0.5ppm.

The CC of .2 is me. Because it’s almost not even there. So it’s not even .5 which is the metric I’m using. 10ml = .5 ppm.

I’ve done the CC test so many times I can tell when I add the 5 drops it just doesn’t change or if it does the pink is so very hard to even tell that I calm it .2.

That may be unscientific however. 🤔

Ok, Just making sure theres no test errors. My personal philosphy is that if its less than 0.5 then its the same as zero but do what works for you. I dont even test CC unless theres a problem anymore.

Ok.
I’m going to do another cya test. This time with peices of paper stating “100” “90” “80” and so on while I take a pic after each filling to the next line. Going line by line with solution. And let you experts tell me if I’m close or not.

It’s the only one that I can’t feel good about.

First one is filled half way to 100 from bottom of container. Filling to each next line and taking photo with number. Back to sun at waist level.
