Continuation of an odyssey

I think it was "Ontario" if I recall correctly. I think I posted what it was on the "pool colors" thread. Found it: Noble Tile NCCP 653 "Ontario".

More salt... Up to 2200 PPM. Will need probably half to three quarters of a bag more than pool math calculated.. Probably good that it does it that way. Might have figured out a way to make the vertical salt cell installation even less difficult. If I can find a 2" street elbow I can likely made the U tighter. I will post a diagram of parts before I glue it all up in case anyone else needs to jam it in less than 9" of pipe like I have to.

Oddly enough, my favorite have been the Diamond Crystal Solar Crystals, even more so than the Diamond Crystal Pool Salt. The second choice is Morton Pool Salt. Then Diamond Crystal Pool Salt. Lastly, the briquettes. I even have another brand now from Lowe's... Haven't added that yet. For some reason the stores only have a few bags (like one or two) so I have had to get them ad hoc like that...

Lastly I got lucky and found an exact match for the paint they used on the PVC, it's regular Rustoleum "anodized bronze"... So it'll all match when I am done... I wish I would have thought about that street elbow idea earlier when I was out...

So one quick log entry. I added one 40# bag of salt today. Measured twice 2200 PPM this morning before I added it... That should have brought up the salt to 2500 if everything was still going the way it has been despite Pool Math and the charts claiming 368 or so.

I stopped short intentionally.. Everyone swam. Guess what? The salt is up to 3000 PPM. I guess I did not need that extra bag after all. Apparently the family swim mixed up everything better. And yes everyone can taste it... But it's not bad.

And that is almost exactly what the calculators said...

If you add salt, do it slowly and over a couple of days... I still might add a half a bag more but I am going to wait a few more days to top it off.

One thing I am learning from pools and TFP is to be patient when adding anything. Time actually can fix wounds..

Especially because I don't think I will get the cell in until next weekend, anyway... I can use up a couple of gallons of the bleach stash that way. I wasted a lot of time figuring out how to make the cell fit in 8.5"...

Don't add any more salt if your cell is happy (once added). You're in AZ with a lot of evaporation. The water leaves but the salt does not. You'll find your happy place and with a few water additions maybe that salt taste will lessen.

I probably should figure out the amount of salt in the fill water. If it's nearly zero like it should be then I probably should go another bag since the cell says 3500 is optimal and that will get me to 3400. (or half to 3200.) But if not, yeah you are right and we can stop there if the cell is happy. I am not going to finish the job until next weekend likely, so I am done adding for now.

All the PVC is painted here for the UV and I did find the match to the paint the PB used... But it seems to dry rather slowly... So because of the odd shape of the homemade vertical kit I need, I have pre-painted some parts. That slowed me down a lot. I am also going to diagram the homemade vertical kit and post it here... So doing that takes time. Actually swimming yesterday took time. First time for me this year... :)

Well, I am taking the day off tomorrow to work on finishing off the SWCG installation but I did manage to get a bit more than half of the electrical work done. GFCI and plug for the controller (converted to 110V and with a plug on it), an electronic timer where the original switch was for the pool lights that I relocated so a wifi switch would work... Also hidden in the panel is a Square D surge suppressor that I have had for months but never installed across the pump 220V input.

Tomorrow I am going to add a light and a switch for the equipment area and then tackle plumbing in the cell. I might not install the controller and cell until next weekend, leave the dummy in, because I have 10 gallons of 10% and 13% bleach left. Burning off about six sounds right...
