Constantly having to bleed system

Hello group,

My girlfriends below ground pool, she had her pool guy come out before summer I guess, and she’s constantly having to bleed system of air and when she turns system off water shoots out of equipment. Both baskets. Takes a few minutes to get air out and pump sounds terrible. Replaced pump once before I guess. I'm not a pool pro been in AZ 18 months now. I’m a HVAC/R guy and she has air being drawn into this system hence why she’s having to bleed it. Also has another leak on the pump union. Pool guy says this is all normal LOL. I guess she said gasket got replaced already and those lids don’t seem very tight when you put them on. Appreciate your help. Should I replace gaskets first or the top top too? They don’t seem like they lock on very well? I took video but won’t me upload it so took screenshot when she turns system off it shoots water out of both basket lids.

That's one problem. :hammer: Yes, inspect the gaskets. If they are old (cracked, black rubbing off, etc) replace them. Also be sure each rubber gasket or O-ring has "pool lube" on it. No petroleum jelly.

Fire that pool guy. He’s not normal either.

Exactly! I’ll start off with gaskets and lube. Captain obvious where the air is coming from but I’m new to pools being new to AZ but a pool company told her this was normal???? Thanks
Some pumps do, in fact, spit water out when they are turned off, the StaRite Max-E-Glass 1 & 2 especially.
They seldom suck air when on unless the lid O ring is very bad. Those Hayward NorthStar pumps (PlatinumFlow is a private branding) usually didn't, but they had a problem with both the lid O ring and the pump inlets and outlets. You will not suck air from the pump outlet. Really time to consider a new VSP and replace that dinosaur that Hayward would love to disown.

So I stopped at pool supply place and he said the pump fitting or the pump was an old north star and they don’t make that fitting anymore. Part unavailable? Seems weird. He told me to take it off and see if it was threaded inside as well

Thanks. I didn’t look and see if it was the outlet or inlet. Glad it’s the outlet not the suction. Ya that’s what I’m thinking as well replace with variable :(

Tell us a bit more about the pool.
Pool/spa combo or pool only?
Automation?
In floor cleaning system? I see what appears to be a leaf canister in one of your pics and they are sometimes associated with IFCS).

Better yet, fill out your signature with pool, pool equipment (manufacturers and model numbers) and test kit info.

Pictures of the equipment pad from a few different angles would help as well.
