I'm looking to do and owner build pool. my 1st question is how did you guys get your designs and engineering. and how did you find contractors? Located in Southern California

We aren't in Southern California but we hired a pool consultant that did that for us. You could Google it to find some in your area. There also BYOP.
If your municipality, or a neighboring one, has online permits where you can pull plans from previous permits, you can search other new pool permits and look at their plans to get engineer info.
For design, I looked at pools on here to get my ideas, then did the tweaks I wanted myself.
