Hi Team,

Not sure if the 100+ heat in Texas caused this but found a leak at the joint between the pump and plumbing. As I tried to adjust the screw part of the joint the whole connection seemed to go undone. I’m trying to figure out if I can fix this or whether I should call a professional. I’m pretty handy, but looks like there’s not room for error. Also not sure how the actual connection works.

H,

That pump is connected with a pump union.

You can just unscrew the union and then tighten the part that is threaded into your pump.

I can't tell from the pic if the union is just not screwed in all the way or if it is broken.

If broken, it can easily be replaced.

Both your Input and output pipes have unions so your whole pump can be removed, if necessary.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim. It looks like it’s broken at the entrance to the pump. If that’s threaded, it must be broken as it easily moves. Do I turn the smaller thin ring clockwise and larger ring counter to loosen the unions?

H,

You would turn the larger black ring to unscrew from the plumbing and then once you moved the pump back a little, you should be able to unscrew the end that is going into the threaded connection of the pump.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Final update. Confirmed the union was broken leaving part of the union in the threaded pump housing. Found a repairman to come out and fix it, as I had to e at work. Charged me $80 to tell me I would need to replace the whole pump housing for $300+. BS! Came home from work, stopped at Leslie’s who had the union for $20 and talked me through how to cut out the union with a small saw. 45 min later, fixed.

Thanks Jim. Your insight allowed me to look up the union install videos online and realize this was an easy fix.
