Confusing TA test results

New neighbors moved in next door and they have a pool. He's had some algae develop and I tested the water for him using my TF-100. I went to perform a TA test, but the solution never turned blue/green when adding the R-0008. It instead turned a deep pink.

The other readings were awful, and I'm not sure if that throws off the TA test somehow or if TA is SO low, that the test can't be run?

pH - under 6.8, no idea how low
TA: no idea, that's why I'm writing this post :)
CYA: ~50

Vinyl pool, supposedly 25k gal., sand filter.

I'm having him raise the pH with soda ash, then start the SLAM process with 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. I have no idea what the TA test result means though, so I can't offer any advice. So now I look to the experts. :D

Thanks! That detail is in the one place I didn't look.

Oh, is the pH definitively THAT low? It was very yellow in the pH test, and I couldn't tell how far below 6.8 it would actually go. Trying to give him some guidance on how much soda ash to get.
