Concrete pool up north

LOL! Good thing your mental clock was working well.

I would agree that the best way to enjoy your hard work, and to appreciate the life of your pool would be in your birthday suit. I would also suggest (if you haven't already) to purchase a really good mask or set of goggles for yourself and the wife. My DH and I use ours often for the pleasure of underwater view and to inspect our pool.

Your family picture on the "post your photo thread" was really nice, your girls are beautiful. I thought that was a great idea for a thread.

Hope all is well with the pump, and keep us updated!

Henry, your pool is beautiful! Amazing workmanship you have. Bravo!

Doing what I just did, I just couldn't imagine doing what you just did! I can't even imagine doing what I just did again, let alone tackling a project like yours.

Tack så mycket

Yes we have one restaurant that serves them here what I know of, they are popular and very tasty :goodjob: only downsides is that you get so greasy when you eat them and I usually avoid that type of food when I'm eating out beacuse of that, if I'm not pi**ed then I eat just about everyting :) . Happy birthday btw

Tomorrow will we finish the last plumbing. It's then almost a week since I filled the pool. I have managed to maintain a clear water with the pool robot and some granulated chlorine that I have dosed as written on the package. Yeah you can see for yourself how good the water looks on the pic, it's crystal clear

Don't pay any attention to me it's friday night and I just entertain myself while DW is on a girls party
I'm just happy that I will get my system running tomorrow(touch wood) so it's for that reason I might step over the line a lil bit.
Have faith in me! I will get totally normal again once I get into that pool of ours.... This long wait is tearing on me.
I came up with a good idea during the long wait for the plumber. We have decided to add a section to our kitchen so we can get room for a fridge, sometimes it's good to have a bit extra time on your hands. It can gives you some brilliant ideas. It's will look awesome and really give the kitchen a totally different look. Just as usual have I it all pictured in my head. I will start to pour the foundation tomorrow if I get the time, something I probably not gonna get since we gonna finish the plumbing :goodjob:

and btw Melt! I will take out my testkit first thing once I get the system running and post the figures here. I have started to read in sections here at TFP last day or two that I never have looked at before :? It's all greek to me at the moment but I think I can get there with your help. Thanks!!

One serious post!
I have layed the first layer of stucco on the kitchen. I will finish the kitchen before I go over the rest beacuse I want to be able to continue with the electrictity and finsih that so we can sit out it when it's getting dark, and I can only do that once the stucco is finished. I can't get the freshwater there either before the stucco is finished beacuse of the lack of room to put it on once the sink is mounted. So now shall I finish this job!
As I wrote in another post have I moved out the heatpump to the outside of the walls. I plumbed that myself and was able to hide the bypass underground where the tubes get up from the concrete on the inside. It turned out very well. First did I plan to have the bypass in the machineroom but it's getting pretty croweded in there so this was a better solution.

The pool robot that my kids have named RUT btw :) is doing a great job but it takes fairly long time to execute a cleaning cycle. Probably beacuse it's dimensioned for bigger pools. Around 3,5hours or even e bit longer I think.
Can you just turn it off before it's stops by it self without messing up next cycle?

I have to apologies for the quality of my pics. We have two cameras that look the same and one seems to be worse than the other.
This pic doesen't show a clear water but it is actually. I have to get rid of these cameras and get something better. It is 2010 after all.
Sorry!!

I was out there and was thinking that I should fill up the rest of the water from the inlets and up. But then I came to think of that we need to cut the lines that goes from the inlets to get room for the swg in the machineroom and I'm not sure that my inlet plugs are tight. So I can't decided if I shall fill or not. I want to be able to test run the system when the plumber is here tomorrow and it takes a while to get the waterlevel up to the skimmers. I have to think it over a bit more.

A positive thing I have payed attention to is that I doesen't loose any water, even if the pool is open and the weather here has been sunny. Not what you can see with your eye atleast. Again I have to touch wood but it seems like the pool is tight :goodjob: and I hope it will remain that way even after we fill it up all the way.
Poolsalt is something I need to get tomorrow. I did almost forget about that :hammer: I hope I can get it here on a saturday otherwise will have someone to drag me behind his car around the neighbourhood as a punishment for such neglecting :hammer:

Another thing I came to think about that I haven't thought about until now actually is that I have a concerte ticket to Sweden's own Bob Dylan tomorrow night, Ulf Lundell. I'm not so sure that I can manage to go to that concerte when I think about it. The plumber shall be here three o clock so that gonna be tight. Another hammer for that :hammer: I knew that there were something when he called me earlier this evening but I was so glad that he finally called so I said yes immeditiately when asked if he could get here tomorrow. Doesen't matter I choose the pool every day in the week before any concerte. It would only be mr. Zimmerman himself that I would put infront of our pool in current situation :)

What more can I think of telling you..... Yeah I shall order the fridge once I'm done here at tfp tonight! You know DW said yes to my plans for the extension of the kitchen even before I had start to persuade her  Something that surprised me a lot. I told her my plans today on our morning walk. So I was thinking If I order the fridge tonight once she is away she can't change her mind about it :goodjob: Or she could but then I will put plans to order anyway.
But I think she can see the benefits of having a fridge out there. Things get so much easier while cooking so you don't have to run back and forth everytime you need something. Overall is she so much more positive to the kitchen now then she was in the beginning. The whole idea with a place where you can cook was my idea. I can say that we haven't had one lunch or almost no dinner inside last two weeks and the kitchen is not even half finished yet :goodjob:

I have done it again! Turned my "dull" life inside out for you all once more.....No it's not dull I'm very content and as you all know! I donät have any regrets........

WOW, WOW, WOW. Found this post today and have been reading it non stop. What an endeavor to tackle. Beautiful and impeccable craftsmanship. I certainly can't let my wife see this post or I'll be working on a new pool until the day I die!! Nice, very nice work on the pool and keeping everyone here up to date on your accomplishments. I wish you and your family many, many years of enjoyment. Good luck, and God bless. Howie

Mats,
The pool looks fabulous! Congratulations! You won't regret adding a fridge outside. We had two of the "mini" fridges left over from the college days that we put out in our bar area when we built it and they come in very handy. During cookouts we use them for food, but the rest of the time they just hold beer, soda, and water. No running inside for a cold drink when lounging by the pool on a hot day. Its a great place to keep extra bottles of the condiments you use frequently when grilling too (ketchup, BBQ sauce, marinades, mustard, etc). We have been thinking about putting a full-size fridge outside for a while now. Money always seems to go elsewhere though, you know? Anyway, Enjoy that kitchen and cook a fabulous meal for Eva. Dinner poolside could be very romantic! :goodjob:

Of course I follow this thread, religiously. :-D  Everything is coming together so well and so very beautiful.

Hint - Not Pool Related

My DH uses (medical) exam gloves for just about everything, including at work, of course, but we keep boxes on hand for many projects around the house. DH uses them for preparing meals and snacks, also. You name it and he probably has exam gloves on. Point: He eats any messy foods, those that mess up your hands, using the exam gloves and even carries them to restaurants (always a supply in autos for fueling, etc.). One of the best uses is eating barbecue, like ribs and wings, where you just have to use your hands.

He uses a special type, non powdered, that he orders, in bulk, from medical supply but I can use just about any type, so we purchase mine at Costco or Sam's.

We keep those and a good supply of Tencel (green sustainable product), unscented, personal wipes in the bathrooms too. We don't flush the wipes.

I always carry the travel size wipes in my purse too; great for pre-cleanup before and after meals at restaurants.

The wipes, unscented, baby wipes, Tencel, purchased at Costco, are great for a quick cleanup when you have to be somewhat "presentable" during house/pool projects, like a quick run into town, to the hardware store for something you forgot to purchase for house/pool project  ; much faster than a bath or shower.

 Cheers, gg=alice

Alice that is a good tip. We used a similar type of gloves when we applied the epoxy grout. But ours was powdered on the inside. Never thought of bringing them to a restaurant though

Pool is filled! yet there is 24 hours waiting time for the glue to settled before I can switch on the system, not a disaster but it would have been fun to started it up tonight.
It was like I suspected that I should run into problems finding salt to the pool. Here in our town was only 100 pounds available so I had to drive for almost two hours to get the rest of the 484lbs my pool needs to reach 4000ppm of salt. I poured in like 80% of it and will wait with the rest for tomorrow. Then I shall bring out my testkit and see what that can bring  I plan for a days job to figuring out how to use that device :hammer:
The water is very clear just by letting the pool robot do it's work once a day together with some chlorine once every evening but it's cold though

West Virginia girl! I've read your post to Eva so she really would understand that she made the correct decision letting me extend the kitchen with a place for a fridge. But ever since I read it to her she keeps repeating something about a romantic dinner that she want's me to cook to her  Great Post Wvgirl! Much appreciated..

Howdy Howie! I coulden't resist.... I'm glad you like it so far but we only halfway yet, there is much more to come with everything around the pool. The more time I'm spending on this project the more fun things do I come up with that I can add to the list "can bee done when the money starts to flow again" if they ever will  Even if it will stay the way it is today I more than happy and feels much privileged to be able to pull this build through. When I saw my two daughters playing around in the pool this evening while I was pouring in the salt almost brought a tear to my eye. It just stroked me there on the pool edge that it was for them that I built it. It was an undescribable feeling see their smile on their faces.

I think we need a new thread on fitness!!! How did you get so sculpted???

Shaf! Right away I liked you after reading that above  :whoot:
It was meant as a joke, just want to clarify that if anyone (highly unlikely) didn't understood that :?
But to answer your question..... It's a straight diet together with hard work with the pool that made me lost 40 pounds since I started this project almost two years ago that you see in that pic.
I know I have said in the middle of all this that a job like the one I have undertaken is doable to do yourself. I have to make a disclaimer to that with the perspective that I have sitting here today. It's not something I would recommend someone to do themself. It has been tremendous hard work most of the time. Just try to describe when I was forming the pool walls and the boards weighed like 170lbs each and I draged them down in the whole myself and set them in place. Before that did I pick them up with a trailer behind my car and load and unloaded them by hand. Before I could use them did I have to clean them and fix all the wholes in them wich meant more carrying them around. After the wall was poured did I have to drag them up from the whole and then on the trailer with them and away to the dump, where I had to carrying them one last time :hammer: I can't count how many times I have lifted them but it't tons of tons of weight. Now wonder I'm thin

Regarding my training regime for getting definition is a walk on an empty stomach in the mornings the best way for me. I have also added a cup of coffey before I start the walk, I think that makes a real difference actually. The heart frequensy increases from the coffein and that burns the little extra calories.
Besides from that do I try to get the time to join two aerobic workouts each week and one or two gym workouts in between. I actually stopped gym training 1994 and have only started again for 6-7 months ago. But so far so good!

Here is some pics from today. I'm so proud so please let me show the same pics just once more atleast is there water all the way up on this set!!!

Have a wonderful saturday night everybody..Finally filledIMG_8486.gif[/attachment:3065zzb3]Finally filledIMG_8489.gif[/attachment:3065zzb3]Finally filledIMG_8492.gif[/attachment:3065zzb3]

Looks great! Love the tile and the blue water it creates is incredible. Great picture with the reflection. I'm sure you will enjoy your pool for many years. You'll also have the satisfaction of knowing you built this thing with your own 2 hands. Must be very satisfying!

My pool, which was built by many hands but none of them belonged to me, is just about done and will be filled starting tonight.

I think you inspired me to do a little work myself so I've been busy replacing some old deck boards which were very cracked. A pittance compared to what you've done but hey, it's a start!

That makes me proud if I have done that  I have been a slacker the last couple of weeks when it comes to read other posts. So I have to check if you have a log in here.

Hahaha Mud!
I have memory as an goldfish. I have looked at your build many times. That is beyond words. I have wanted to chime in and say how wonderful that will turn out be but it's way out of my league so I have remained silent  Just the plumbing is more complicated than my whole pool. I understand that you have let contractors building that for you :-D
But I will be swimming before you :-D Tomorrow morning will be the premier for us, but I guess you won't be long after.
A big congratulations to you and your family, really interesting to follow

I am speechless at how beautiful your pool has turned out. I think there is nothing more beautiful than a simple reflection like where your house is reflecting, or the cloud as the sun is going down. Simply one of the most beautiful sights I can imagine. I wish you many many years of enjoyable times in and around your pool. Congrats!
