Clueless! New to forum

The second hole in the skimmer could go nowhere; it could go to a port in the side wall below the skimmer, or it could go to the main drain. If it goes to an open port or the drain, there should be a diverter valve somewhere.
Just to follow up on what Richard320 said here - during my SLAM I was getting a weird result: I seemed to be mostly done with the SLAM but I just couldn't get my FC to stay steady overnight - it would lose a few points no matter what. It turns out that without the diverter valve in, the line between my main drain and the skimmer was full of disgusting algae. After I installed a diverter valve and ran the pump so that it could suck all the grossness out, I passed the OCLT the next night.

I know you said you don't have a main drain but it might be worth it to explore a bit where that other line from your skimmer goes, insofar that you can. Maybe stick a water hose in a bit and turn on the water and see if you get a cloud of algae washing out either into the skimmer or out somewhere into the pool?

Ok, so does anyone think that it's time now for me to try some DE in my sand filter?? My CC has been .5 or less for a few days now. I'm still losing 2-3ppm FC overnight. I'm just feeling like the circulation in my pool is not that great and I'm anxious to try & speed up the filtering process. Also, about the organic stains around the water line.... I could just add water to bring the water level up above the stains and let the pool bleach itself OR could I pour some bleach on one of those teflon scrubby things and go around by hand? I'm ready for the next round of suggestions!!! Thank all y'all so much for all the help, support & encouragement throughout this process. Y'all kept me sane when I thought I would lose it! You told me to stay the course and it would work.... AND you were right!! I have seldom been this determined to WIN at something..... but it looks like I may have won the battle of me vs. the "green monster" :lovetfp:

You can try the DE but the first time you do it you want to be "home" so you can check on it often and get a feel for how fast it might start to clog and need backwashing.

Normal, NO !!

But there is no normal. It will vary by size of filter and condition of the media (sand). I can't remember but I think the range in the "How To" was 1/2 to 2 cups so you're good ;)

Day 25 update: It has been raining here for many hours and the pool doesn't look as pretty today. The DE has been in my filter for almost 24hrs now and the psi is up from 17 to 24!! When should I backwash and add new DE?? As you can see in the pics..... the 3rd step is visible AND the 2nd step on the ladder!!!

Now. If clean pressure is 17, you should be backwashing at around 21 or 22 psi. Don't forget to add more DE after the backwash.
