Hey everyone,

New pool owner here, my parents had a pool when I was growing up but I just bought a house with a 40x20 ingrounded pool in Iowa.

I need some help figuring out why my water is so cloudy. The pool was covered and winterized for 2 years by the previous owner so I've been trying to rehab the pool since I bought the house 3 weeks ago. I've had the pool company come out twice and what started out as a green swamp is now a nice blue pool. I did the Slam method and the pool is holding chlorine great ive done the overnight test multiple days, yet even after cleaning the filter and using Clarifiers etc nothing seems to be helping get it more clear. I can only see 8inches deep in the water and it's been quite frustrating.

Here are my current test results:
FC 5.2
CC don't have this number
CYA 49
PH 7.4
TA 80
CH 170

These are a mixture of results I got back from the pool store yesterday and me re-testing it today using a 6-way kit and cross referencing with test strips.

Any help would be great here are some pics of it as of today. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TFP!!!

First thing to do is order a recommended test kit. Link-->Test Kits Compared

Add 5ppm of liquid chlorine PER DAY, until your kit arrives. Don't add anything else.

You will need the kit to SLAM the pool. Use the SLAM process and it will clear your pool. Print it out and read it thoroughly while you wait for the kit. Link-->SLAM Process

When the kit arrives, post a full set of results and start the SLAM process.

Got my kit and started the SLAM yesterday afternoon. Here are the current numbers.

FC 16
CC 0.4
CYA 40
PH 7.4
TA 80
CH 270

Any further suggestions would be helpful, thanks

Use a 10mL sample of water for FC test. Each drop is .5FC and .5CC. This will reduce the amount of reagent you use.
