Cloudy pool won't clear

The skimmer baskets come in a handful of easily identifiable sizes. An 8 3/4 clearly isn't a 7 1/2 or a 6 7/8. (Vice versa / etc etc) The plates will list the size and chances are its an easy decision.

Vac operation #1 complete success!

The pool is slightly hazy now, I kicked up some stuff during the vacuum. I will let it settle and vac again tomorrow. I'm running the pump to circulate some chlorine.

I have decided to order a new filter. Going to go with a cartridge, likely an Rx clear 425 quad cartridge.

Edit: ordered the filter last night, expected delivery Saturday.

The SLAM will begin again after the second vac.

Been gone for a week, so this thread has made progress! Glad you got a vacuum setup. While floc is generally not recommended on this site, I used to use it a LOT for years before I went TFP. As you have found, the accumulation on the bottom is delicate, and will resuspend with any agitation. Hence the vacuuming to waste. With the filter on, it may get somewhat trapped, but over time break apart and the water gets hazy again. As you likely have done, backwash the filter to flush out any that was trapped. As noted, vac'ing to waste uses a lot of water. Floc has it's place, but is easy to not use correctly, hence the bias against here.

Got it 99% installed yesterday and realized I bought one too few elbows.

The pump seals were garbage and I am surprised it took this long to start leaking. All new seals and gaskets in the pump. The multi piece seals were all falling apart.

Got it finished today and I am very pleased!!!! (Ignore the janky wiring. This pool house is getting replaced soon, but everything is wired and grounded correctly at least)

The pump is now much quieter and the filter is silent. The old one always had a smidge of air noise. The water flow from the jets is much stronger too! I will be restarting the SLAM after the storms come through Monday and Tuesday, stay tuned!

Many have gone carts from sand and DE and the overwhelming majority kicked themselves for not doing it sooner.

And don't even get me started on SWGs. It's a game changer.
