Hello again,

On Thursday, my pool water was crystal clear. I had just finished a staining treatment, which brought my chlorine levels down. I read that I should raise the levels gradually.

I was in the process of doing that when the pool company (which I had instructed not to come or treat my pool) came anyway and did the following (yes, I fired them). Here is the note they left which included their testing results and what they did to the water.

“Chl-0, pH-7.2, Alk-180, Salinity 1000 @ 100%. Added 8 bags of salt. Added 1 qt Metal Magic. Added 6 lbs chlorine and 4 tabs. Added 6 lbs pH up.”

So my pool went from crystal clear with on Thursday to completely clouded over after their treatment.

I’m not sure why or what to do.

These are my readings from today:
- Free Chlorine: 0.6 ppm
- pH: 7.35
- Alkalinity: 300
- Calcium Hardness: 180 ppm
- CYA: 30
- Salinity: 3180

How are you testing your water? These look like pool store results. We really need results from your kit. Here is what we recommend...link-->Test Kits Compared

I'd add 5ppm of liquid chlorine per day until the kit arrives. Nothing else...

When it arrives, follow the SLAM process to clear the pool. Link-->SLAM Process

I used the tailor K – 2006. They are my test results.
Liquid chlorine. Got it. What do you mean by “when it arrives”? When what arrives?

Do you have any tgouvhts on why it clouded up so much after I had it completely clear?

Great on the test kit. The pH must be from a meter. All Good.

Start the SLAM process. Link-->SLAM Process

Who knows. The metal magic, algae, the calcium in the shock (if that is what it was), something in the salt...we will never know.

In the future, use a 10ml sample for FC testing. Each drop is .5FC. This is plenty accurate and will save reagent!

To reiterate, you suggest five ppm of liquid chlorine daily, plus the slam process?

OK, I just went through the link you included for the slam. I understand I need to lower my a little bit. I have some acid on hand, so I’m going to add 7 ounces and circulate it, however, I am a little bit confused about how much liquid chlorine to add each day. Could you help me figure this out?

Print out the slam process and read it three times.

You check FC every couple hours, and replace FC to SLAM level for your CYA. You can use Pool Math to calculate how much chlorine is needed to get from your current FC to SLAM level FC.
