I have cloudiness and yellow settling in the pool. I don't think it's pollen because it's not on my outdoor furniture. Usually crystal clear.

Hardness: Haven't tested since beginning of season, but I know it was acceptable. It's my understanding this is not as urgent on a vinyl pool?
CYA: 70
I normally use bleach and muratic acid to keep my Chlorine at 3-4 and pH at 7.2-7.5.
I also have a heavy duty clear solar blanket but I don't use it when the pool temp gets 84 or above.
One deviation from that is using a trichlore (sp?) puck floater when we are away for 3-4 days. It has keep my readings good on return.

Thank you JamesW. Unfortunately my test kit does not go high enough to accurately stay at SLAM level. I can use the information at the bottom of the old calculator to raise it to SLAM level but keeping it there is a guess. I'm sure I will invest in the TF100 or ? next season.

Darn it! I was putting in the ounces of bleach and muriatic acid per the calculator! Obviously I missed seeing the chart AND reading the Cl as a minimum instead of a target. My CYA used to not even register on the test so I added pods as directions say and it ended up being a little high. I'm adding a couple inches of water this evening so I'll test again, get my pH to 7.2 and start SLAM. I'll order my test kit but it will take a few days to arrive :-( Yes, I live very rural.
If I want to lower my CYA to 50, the calculator says to replace 29% of water. Should I do that before SLAM or after?

Before is better. Drain down about 1/3 of your volume. If your water height is 42", drain down 14" or so and refill.

The test with the black dot in the bottom of the cylinder. Initially it didn't register on the scale. I added 1 pod at a time and now 70. I really didn't want it that high but maybe didn't let sit long enough between pods.

For a normally chlorinated pool in your environment I would reduce the CYA to 50 for now. Even 40 ppm may be Ok as you are on the downside of summer.
