Closing kits

Do closing kits such as the bioguard closing kit expire or lose their effectiveness?

I have a unused closing kit that has been stored in the garage for about 10 years. Is this still good or is it no good anymore? Garage is insulated and not damp.

I don't know if its any good expiration wise, but very little in those kits are necessary or recommended. Can you tell us what the elements are?

Does the algaecide list copper as an ingredient......can you give me the ingredient list or a pic of it?
Is that "shock" a granular product? Again, what is the ingredient?
Are you actually having scale problems? Most vinyl pools don't have calcium issues to worry about......

The shock is a powder in a bag

Municipal water here is extremely hard and calcium is definitely an issue from unsoftened water. Water softeners are standard in homes here. Outdoor water is not softened.

My main concern is how well these products will work after sitting in the garage for so long. Is it still ok to use them?

The age doesn't matter, you don't want to use any of those products.

Copper algaecide is not a good item to use. Whatever the shock is isn't going to be good. It either has CYA or calcium, neither of which sound like a good idea in your water. And you really don't need anything for scale.

Best to just throw them all out.

I would NOT use the copper algaecide. The shock is probably fine to use- it either has CYA or calcium in the mix but one bag shouldn't be a problem if your testing shows you can afford it.

Those products are fine if they've been kept dry and out of sun.

We decided against using the old chemicals and got new shock and copper free Algicide. Thanks for the input everyone
