Clorox XTRABlue trashed my pool?

I have 7 bags of salt that I bought at my local P-a-P. I haven’t added the salt to the pool yet so the salt level won’t be in range.

Do. Not. Add. Salt. Without. Testing. First.

Many have found themselves halfway there, or even all the way there because pretty much everything you've ever added to the pool raised the salinity a skootch. Over time, it adds up.

I’m already confused. There is a daily chlorine test and a weekly chlorine test. The daily chlorine test says it tests the presence of CL and it reads 1-2. When I do the weekly chlorine drop test, I added the r-0870 powder and r-0871 drops and the water sample turned back to clear with 2 drops. But then it started turning pink again so I added 20 more drops. Now I let it sit a bit and the pink color is almost purple.

Forget you own the FC block. Use it for PH only.

Test daily with the powder test.

Are you using 10ml for the sample size ? If not use 10ml and each drop is 1/2 FC. It's way close enough for what we need and saves 2.5X the supplies over the 25ml sample.

We round up. 31 - 39 = 40. As such, only fill to the 10s and it's way easier to tell its definitely not 30 and definitely not 50.

That's enough to have overshot the target. It stings to drain freshly added chemicals because you didn't creep up to target. Draining fixes the salt, but you'll have to replace the drained CYA and CH making it a 3 way

Which target are you referring to? Salt water tested at 600, which is about where it should be given the water changes. I haven’t added any salt recently. Was planning to do that when I install the new SWCG.

Correct. Many blindly add from 0. You know yours is 600 to start and although it's not alot like it would be after a couple years, it's still 600.

Try the fc & cc test again.
For both tests once it gets clear that test is done- record the results & move on.
If you let the sample sit it will get pink again
I suspect this is what happened with your cc test
Edit to add: you have added sulfamic acid- this can mess up the fc/cc readings.
After your treatment is complete you should exchange the water to dilute the sulfamic acid & copper concentration.

I just noticed you seemed gung ho about the new swcg & rebalancing- didn’t want you to skip the “actually rid yourself of the copper” step or endanger your new (and exciting!) swcg with acidic conditions

How to Raise pH​

The best way to raise pH is by aeration of the water. That will raise your pH gradually while not affecting your TA.

If TA is 50 or above, bring your pH up to 7.4 or so using 20 mule team Borax.....soda ash is not a good choice as it will raise the pH and raise the TA a lot.

If TA is below 50, then bring the TA up to 50-60 using baking soda and THEN raise your pH to around 7.4 using 20 Mule Team Borax.
