Help! Having the grandkids over tomorrow and Free Cl = 11.5 ppm Goal 5.0 with CYA 70
SWG: IC40 15,000 gal. Everything else is balanced. pH 7.5
I have 24 hours on a weekend to fix this.
The pH is 7.5 so vitamin C is out.
Peroxide or thiosulfate? How much? for the 15000 gallon pool?
Thanks

Good to start a little hot, between the bather load and the sun you dont want to get near the minimum.

Who says that's too high? It's fine, especially with kids coming over (who tend to be, well, gross). Mine is pretty much at 11 FC all the time with 70 CYA.

I keep mine around 8-9 with a cya of 70.

amazing how people will say "you'd better shock your pool, you have no chlorine in it because I cant smell it."

We’re in it now. My wife says she can smell it (I have lost that sense due to surgeries). The kids seem fine.
I shouldn’t have told her.

If you smell chlorine, that is chloramines. Those are created by ammonia based contaminants being oxidized by the chlorine. Pee, dead skin, other things from the body are normally the likeliest sources.

If you smell chlorine, likely someone pee'd ---
When I do my test after the kids are swimming I always tell them the CC test is the “pee test”.

“Alright kids, time to see if anyone peed…”

I think it has worked to scare them away from peeing in the pool.
