In the past when I needed Chlorine I just went to the local store with the lowest advertised price and got what I needed. Since joining TFP I have learned that not all Chlorine is equal. When I need to get Liquid Chlorine now, I look for the Sodium Hypochlorite percentage and use that as my guideline to what is the best value overall. One thing that still confuses me is the many ways Chlorine is advertised. Many times, I see it advertised and Pool Stabilizer or Pool Shock and seldom see it advertised and just liquid pool chlorine. Today I need to get more Chlorine and found the local Menards Store has Pro-Chlor Liquid Pool Shock (SKU 2796950) in one gallon containers for $3.55 after mail in rebate. That is a good price by me for Chlorine. The description says it can be used as a daily sanitizer or to super chlorinate the pool once a week. The Safety Data Sheet states that the composition is 12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite. I assume this is fine for what I need and I just adjust the % level when recording a chemical addition. Is my assumption correct and what do you look for when buying liquid Chlorine.

Menards at $4/gal for 12.5% is about the cheapest I can find, and apparently that's a pretty good price. I've seen pool stores selling a 4-pk of 12.5% for $30+.
I can find a 4-pack at Farm & Fleet of 1-gallon 12.5% for $15, which is $3.75 each, and that's about the cheapest I can find here.
