Good afternoon,
Hope everyone is doing well. I hate to trouble the group, but I'm wondering if I can ask a question, please and thank you?
25,000 Gallon Chlorine Tabs 1.5HP Pentair pump In Ground Pool
I'm having trouble with Chlorine as my numbers FC/TCL is .3PPM and I poured a whole Gallon of 12.5% liquid Chlorine 2 days ago and got up to 3.97 but dropped to .3 yesterday
I added a gallon of Muriatic Acid to reduce from 150 to 120 and my PH was 6.8 so I added about 2-3 lbs of Baking Soda
CH 260 and CYA 60
I don't know why my Chlorine is so low and why it won't stabilize? Any thoughts would be great.
Thank you

We are literally here to answer questions. It might as well be for you. 🤷‍♂️ (y)

How are you testing ?

Who is advising you to lower the TA then jack it right back up with baking soda ?

You'll need to Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to address the FC issues.

Chlorine Tabs
If you're using tabs, I'm skeptical that your CYA is only 60. Your signature indicates a SWCG. Are you using that too?

In Albuquerque in the summer, your FC demand is probably ~4 every day. FC needs to be topped up daily.

I added about 2-3 lbs of Baking Soda
Don't add any more baking soda. You definitely don't need it.

Contaminants and UV radiation from the sun deplete your FC. Tell us about the results of the OCLT.

I checked readings last night using my LaMotte ColorQ Pro7 and got the following readings
FCL - Low
TCL - Low
PH - Low (never had that happen before)
Alk - 147
CH - 146
CYA - 44

I put 54oz of 12.5% liquid Chlorine and pump running for 12 hours. // 5 chlorine tabs floating in pool
I'm going to test again tonight, but I have no clue why now the PH won't even register?

Thank you, I appreciate everything!

One of the foundations of TFP is self-testing. You got that part right!

We base our advice off of the test kits that we recommend. Here is a link to the recommended kits. Link-->Test Kits Compared

The issue we have found is that spin tests, ColorQ, strips and pool store testing are often inaccurate. If we give advice based on inaccurate testing, we could do more harm than good.

We have found the recommended test kits are accurate. I'd suggest getting a recommended kit.
