center pipe on hayward sand filter a little high

Can I trim 1/4 inch from my center pipe. My clamp won't tighten quite enough and I have a small leak....
You can, but of course you can't grow it back. Ha. What happened? Did the whole thing lift up when you opened up the filter and lifted the MPV?

lol Yes. I assume it either lifted up or when I replaced the sand last fall it lifted a little at that time. I tried a new o ring and put grease and tapped with a rubber mallet when tightening without luck. It is not leaking much but don't like the way it looks. What should I use to trim the pipe so as not to damage it. I certainly don't want to replace any parts and remove the sand again. Painful job lol

Weather has been very poor here. Haven't even fired up the heater yet.. Thanks for the help

Don't recommend doing it, but if you must:
