cell sizing

Hi - I have a 30,000 gal pool and need to replace my pentair SWG. The pool was built in 2014, so I got about 5 years out of my IC40. As I think about replacement, any thoughts on sizing? Will i get better value by moving up to an IC60, or is it a waste of money? I didnt really have any issues with the IC40 - it seemed to keep up with the demand right up til the end. I was running pump at a low speed (about 1750 RPM) around 12 hours a day and i recall have the SWG set at 80% for the time the pump ran. If I could get a couple more years out of the IC60, that would be worth it to me.

Thanks!

5 years is pretty good. How many hours did the IC40 have on it? Push and hold the MORE button. Whatever setting light stays lit is how many hours (20 - 2000; 40- 4000; etc).

I would stay with the IC40 . 5 years is a good life and getting more starts to get dicey on the electronics, etc.

It's about $175 jump in price so I'd almost have to get a season and a half more out of it to make it worth it. FWIW, I got over 8000 hours on the IC40.

I hear what you are saying on the electronics. In the 5 years I have had the pool, I have replaced the easy touch board, the intelliflo computer control, a flo switch and the screen logic protocol adapter (twice!). Either the pentair quality control is awful or the outdoor environment is really tough on this stuff.

Shawn,

In theory your IC40 should increase the FC in your 30K pool by 5.6 ppm when running at 100% and 24 hours. So for 12 hours and 80% that means you are using about 2.24 ppm of FC per day..

An IC60 would only have to run at 56% for the same 12 hours to generate the same 2.24 ppm of FC..

In theory in the cell should last longer, but who knows for sure how long any cell will actually last.

Thanks,

Jim R.

i have an IC60 just went out after 5 years. I need to replace it,..since i'm replacing it, i assume i don't need the new power supply. These things are just pug and play, yeah? My pool guy wanted >1600 for one, but i can get in on Amazon for ~760 or so. Shouldn't be a big deal?

Replacing the cell is plug and play. You get a 2 year warranty from Pentair for DIY install of replacement cells.
