Nobody seems to provide CYA where I live these days. I poured in the last 2.8kg I had when opening my pool. The CYA level is already below 30 according to Taylor test as I fill the bottle to the top and the black dot is still somewhat visible. The outside temperature is very hot these days. 41 celcius/106 fahrenheit. My SWG running at 80% half day (morning) cannot keep up. I switched to 60% full day now I end up with 8.5ppm chlorine. The settings are 20,40,60,80,100. Kids seem to feel this high chlorine. The pool is clean so it is not the chloramines. I can play with the timer and probably find a precise duration but the problem seems to be that you cannot set what the equilibrium level of chlorine you have in the pool that easily. You can only seem to find a setting where chlorine will not go up and down, but you don’t know what that level is going to be. So do you first find that setting and then let the chlorine drop to a comfortable level and then bring back to that setting?

You need to act as the manual SWG control.

When the chlorine gets too high then lower the SWG %.

When the chlorine gets too low raise the SWG %.

You do not have a good choice of settings with 20% increments.

You can try varying your pump runtime to get finer control of SWG generation.

It is a math optimization problem.

Are places just sold out of granular CYA for you right now? Does anywhere have trichlor pucks or dichlor "shock"? Those would also add CYA.
There is plenty of solid chlorine in the market but adding CYA that way increases chlorine to crazy high levels.

This is not a good solution. I cannot be around everyday to figure out if Chlorine is going up or down. Besides temperatures are changing a lot. Today’s setting for 40 degrees celsius weather will not be the same as 35 degrees of tomorrow. I think it is time to go for Chlorine probe controller albeit even more expensive than ORP.

Yes, you would have to use the pucks or dichlor slowly and turn your swg down or off for a while, but it's better than nothing. Chlorine won't last long with little to no CYA.

You shouldn't have to adjust swg or pump daily. Your goal is to find an average for the current weather and adjust monthly or so as the seasons change.
