Can't Digest the Prices on Outdoor BBQ Islands

Is it just a supply/demand thing? I can see spending $1k-$2.5k on grilling equipment but the rest of the price tags on these things are asinine IMO. We really want a U-Shaped setup (or maybe just an L-shape if has to be) & that would completely round out of backyard pool deck area but I just can't see where $10k-$15k (or more) is in this stuff.

Looking for other ways to have something outdoor grilling/bar counter space that's non-cheesy looking without spending more than what a super nice used car costs.

Yeah doing your own goes a long way!! I’m actually about to tackle mine next week if you want I’ll keep you posted and let you know where/how I saved a buck or two. But I do know what you mean a good grille would take half your budget in one go. I went with a Alturi by summerset man it was expensive!!

I can totally relate. We’re expanding our patio and installing a larger outdoor kitchen. I can have one custom made for the price of some of the pre-fab stuff. My back (and other aches) prevent me from doing it myself, but then again, that’s why I worked all those years. 🙂

Those prefab island BBQs are ridiculously expensive!
We had our pool contractor build ours when he did the pool. That was a little expensive but nothing close to those prefab prices!

Also depending on fuel source your going with. Basically anything other than charcoal or portable propane requires permit. I am hookin mine up to the propane tank my house uses for heat and appliances so permit for that. Oh and don’t forget if your running a sink you might need one. Personally and DO NOT take this as me suggesting but for water and stuff I try to avoid permits at all cost but with explosive gasses and stuff I always permit

We already have natural gas to the area for the existing grill, but have been told the town will still inspect it with the new build. I wanted water for a sink, but it’s too expensive to run a water line.

Ok so what were you thinking for floor? Pavers, cement, etc ? And as far as grill you’ll want an outdoor island right? Any appliances in it other than grill? Just picked up my slab for counter top yesterday!! 👍 got it for 250 from guy on Craigslist lmao but that’s a huge way to save Craigslist !!!!

Well let me know if this is too trailer parkish for you but for water if all you want is cold just to have something to rinse or wash hands real quick I would just have have someone put a spigot like for a garden hose sticking out the house at shortest distance or most inconspicuous place and run a line from that. It would be temporary so only hook it up in season and fancier than a hose. 🤷‍♂️ Just an idea they make some pretty good looking spigot lines now.

I had nat gas plumbed to the area via the pb at the time the pool / decking was put in. Thinking a U-shape for the area I have. 40 or so inch grill with either capability to have sear burner inside the grill or a separate sear burner if need be. A bar countertop for people to stand/or sit bellied up to on 1 side and on the other side another counter space area with a small fridge under it.

Our plans are virtually identical. Our existing area has a circular bar height top at the end and has served us well, but since we’re adding the cover, we’re going to expand the area.
