Can you just screw in a new Pentair chlorination tower?

My chlorinator is about 20 years old and the see through plastic kind of just crumbled when unscrewing it. I have never messed with one before and obviously need to replace it. Its a tower style feeder that sits on top of a t-connector. I haven't tried to take it apart but I was curious on how the assemble. At first I thought I would have to cut the pipes and reconnect everything together. But then it seems they may screw on, as well as the dial tube. Is this how they work or do I need to rebuild that part of the system pipe wise?

It looks like this (only shattered) , I can't figure out if you can just screw on a new one or if I am going to have to cut the pipes. And ya I know "remove it already" but I haven't gotten out there yet to do anything.

You need to cut the pipe.... I would put unions on either side of it so you can replace it again when needed. So why are you using that? Do you drain and add during the burrrr time to keep your CYA down?

The chlorinator unscrews. There's a set screw that you have to remove first at the base. Look in the little hole at the base for the screw.

It has unions already which is nice so I can take off the entire sections and re-do it. I was just hoping I could screw on the new one to make it easier.

Not sure what you mean by why? Do people not usually use a chlorinator? My CYA levels were sky high last spring so I cycled some water out and got it down. But due to it being on the higher range after I didn't really use the feeder last summer.

I had a feeling due to the picture. So do you think I can just swap the hose and body and not have to re built that side of the plumbing?

If the T is in good condition, you won't have to replumb.

Look for a 1/4" set screw that you reach thru the hole at the bottom of the "tower." Once that's out you can just unscrew the tower. This is what you need. If the valve and hoses are in good shape you can reuse those too. You will also need the O-ring for the bottom, O-ring for the lid, the small screen that goes inside the tower and more than likely the check valve in the bottom too. The T is completely reusable. I will say I gave up on my in line chlorinator a while ago and use liquid bleach with the TFP method. I only use the pucks when I go out of town or need to raise the CYA.

I think the new one I am looking to order is a complete kit, it even comes with a new T. I just felt like why should I replace that if I didn't need to. I am not a fan of it either to be honest as I really caused CYA issues due to trichlor over time. So last year once I got it down some I noped out.

Nope save yourself the trouble and leave the T as is.
