Can I make this swimmable tomorrow?

Ive seen that advice multiple times, to add half or two thirds of the recommended amount, them test and assess. I'm taking that advice, especially with CYA. Pool math says to add 8+ pounds, but I'm going with a sock with 4 lbs of powder.

Socra,

You need to get that sock completely submerged. As others have said, let it soak for 10 minutes or so, hang it in front of a return, and SQUEEEEEEEZE. It will be disolved in 20 minutes. Working the sock is what helps it dissolve quickly instead of waiting a day in the skimmer.

Just checked the sock, and there's just a few ounces of granules left, but I'm panicking again. Just tested chlorine, and there was no color change when adding the R-0870 powder. Which means there is now "0" chlorine? How do I drop from 28 ppm to 0 ppm? For the CYA test, the water was a least a "little" cloudy in the vial, but I could still see the black dot when it was full to the top. So I have somewhere b/w 0 and 20 CYA.
What should I do next? Turn the SWG back on? Pool math says i'll get generate 2.1 ppm free chlorine (24 hr swg output=1.25, 25% SWG%, 24 hr pump run time).

Without CYA the suns UV can drop the FC quickly.

Use liquid chlorine to get your FC back up ASAP and turn on your SWG.

Give the stabilizer time to dissolve. It can take a few days for the CYA test to fully show what was added.

But now with some CYA in the water and some FC go swim.

What does your pH test show?

PH measured at 7.5, so that seems pretty good. Screenshot of the last 2 days checks below.
SWG is back on, thanks! And the pool cover is closed for now.
For now, i've set it to run 24 hrs at 25%, which should output 2.1 ppm after a full day. I now know to start really checking that chlorine level every day and I can adjust that output to stay inline.
Checking pool math, i only should need to add 56oz of 6% bleach to get 1.5 ppm CL (or 44oz of 7.5% bleach). That doesn't "seem" like very much. Maybe it is?

You want at least 3 ppm of FC in the water.

Although with the cover once you get to your desired FC level you will have little FC loss and need to generate a small amount of FC daily.

@socra Imagine pools doesn't show an "infinity" model, and the specs on my 2021 Leisure Pools "The Infinity" 40' was more like 23k gallons by my memory. For whatever reason Leisure no longer shows pool volumes on their site. If your adds are coming up significantly light you might want to adjust your pool volume in PoolMath, as the pool you have specified doesn't seem to actually exist.

also, the DPD test can apparently throw the occasional false zero for FC, I'm pretty sure that happened to me on one of my first tests, as the resulting jump in my FC from a single pound of dichlor (28 ppm jump on 24k gal pool) made zero sense.

My advice: retest DPD and double check your pool model/volume before you add anything.

This is the model I have in 40' length: The Illusion - fiberglass swimming pool with splash pad - Imagine Pools
I managed to google-fu the installation manual from somewhere, can't remember where online, but that had the designed gallons. To your point though, i will go back and check that I didn't read the volume for one of the shorter lengths by mistake.

Thanks for all your help everybody. I feel like i'm well on the way to recovery! Taylor test shows i'm good on Chlorine and PH now. I didn't even add liquid chlorine yesterday, just turned the SWG back on. Need to do another CYA check to see where I'm at and if I need to still add some more.
