Calcium Flakes

Hello everyone i swapped about 5k gallons of the pool 2 days ago, and here are the results today:

FC -> 8.0 (I added few chlorine tablets, because it was at 0 after swapping water, but over shot it)
pH -> 7.2
TA -> 70
CH -> 600
CYA -> 20 (Added about 1b of stabilizer, to bring this up)
SALT -> 2400 (will add salt tomorrow)
Temp -> 82F
CSI -> -0.27

How low do i need to bring the CH down? Do i need to keep draining/replacing water?

With your SWG you want to be able to maintain slightly negative CSI with summer water temperature and realistic target values/ranges for pH, TA, salt and CYA.

Plug in realistic values for those parameters and typical summer water temperature into PoolMath and see what the impact on CSI is.

I reckon, CH below 400 would be preferable, depending how low a TA you can reasonably maintain.

I would recommend that. You have a water softener, so while you're at it, I'd get it right and then you shouldn't have to drain ever again.

600 should be manageable as long as you keep TA and pH low enough, but I reckon it would be a bit of a pain to keep the SWG cell from scaling. With Borates (to keep local pH within the SWG cell from rising too high), 600 could be OK, I think. Without Borates I'd go lower.

Play a bit around with PoolMath. I summer CSI should be ideally between -0.3 and 0, in winter it is OK if CSI goes lower (due to temperature)
