Before I buy this - PoolSupplyWorld Cal-Hypo 50 lb Bucket 73% Super Strength Pro Pool Shock, 70% Available Chlorine. Any good ? I do use liquid but want to have also. Thanks. MartyD

Do you have room for that much CH? Low CH is okay for your pool but high CH can still contribute to scale formation.

It’s a pool liner. I go with 90,000. I also found this O-ACE-sis Cal-Shock 100 lb. it’s on sale I never use it. You ask will I use it? I’m almost done with a 50 lb I bought end of last year.
Sorry I didn’t answer on CH. we have very soft water here. Right now my CH is 0. I just add CH 30 lb and moved up to 50. I have to vacuum n I dumped 8,000 gallons out n added water n it’s like 25 the CH. using Cal with help

Yes, we know. But when water evaporates, CH remains behind, same as CYA. It'll just build and build and build and if you start with high CH as most west coasters do, it;s a bad combination.
When the pool service use to do our pool. They would use 3 inch tabs. Our CYA was off the chart. It’s a fine balance. Since we have soft water I can use Cal. Keeping my CYA under control. I also have to keep raising the PH here. Using liquid clor n Cal Had been right on target so far. Our CYA is 30 at this time. PH 7.2 The TA is 80. TA 5 FC 5.
How I did it was add calcium until I got to around 220 CH, so my 50lbs 73% cal hypo bucket will get me to right around 300 after it is all used (38,000 gal pool)...which is the sweet spot for our white plaster pool.
Once you know what these different chemicals do, you use them to keep the numbers on target not using other chemicals. Took me 3 years to get these numbers correct. I will use 3 inch tabs also not worry about the CYA. End of season let’s say the CYA is 100. That’s ok because pool gets drained a little for winter and rain n snow will fill it about 5 times n it’s gets drained over the winter. When I open in spring the CYA is 0. I can use tabs for awhile again. Stop n use cal. Using the chemicals to your understanding.
