C-19 Vaccine-I got one

they have basically been winging it when it could've been planned months ago, and beyond true front-line health care workers, their decisions have been rather arbitrary. Until a few weeks ago people with underlying conditions were at the back of the line, and that just quietly and mysteriously changed.
Howdy Fresno! I did a semester there back in the day..

Yeah.. I get that anyone can get in line now. I just find it ironic how random the eligibility stuff is. My advice to people is to look a the smaller clinics and pharmacies. they seem to have more surplus. The large hospitals; Kaiser, Sutter seem to be overloaded. Its obvious they have not figured out how to distribute the vaccine in any logical way yet. Yeah they are winging it. I have a friend that just likes looking for vaccines for people.. for her its like shopping! Here in Sacramento county they just announced.. "hey, its great that there is more people eligible, but we don't have the vaccines to cover everyone yet." In the long run it will even out.

Yeah I think what’s happening is the state and some counties keep sending out messaging to go to the MyTurn site, and it doesn’t include a whole lot of places that have quite a bit of vaccine now. The pharmacies I believe have federal sources outside the state. You really have to look around. It was the same trying to find Covid testing last year. It really makes me crazy since they knew for months the vaccine was coming.
Honestly they should’ve just let CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid run the whole show from the start. They are already some of Pfizer and Moderna’s biggest customers and they know how to get shots in a lot of arms.

Good/Bad employees are coming into play also. Some employees doing the screening are either misinformed or not trained well enough turning away people who qualify and others are allowing anybody to come in with no proof all Willy Nilly like.

It’s just like anything else. It matters who you get and how well their mood is that day.

In Oklahoma they are doing kids in school if they want it... Dang near everyone can get one if they want it... Gov just lifted all COVID restrictions and as has let local authorities set masks or not.. We never did get locked down unless you needed to...

What!? 😱

No vaccines have been approved for use in kids under 16. How are they getting away with that? Or are they only offering it to kids 16 and up?

Husband got his today. I got a one word text about it OUCH! When I got home he told me it was all kinds of messed up with MANY people there, no checking of IDs, two lanes, one for 1st shot and one for 2nd that MERGED before they got to the shot spots  It took him 15 mins just to drive to the 15 mins waiting area!!!! BUT he got it and will get the next one in April! No soreness as of yet. We shall how the night goes.

Not sure what the options are in FL, but here in CA it seems like the easiest way is to avoid the big state-run sites and just go to a CVS/Walgreens/Rite Aid, urgent care clinic, grocery store, or even some dentists are giving the shots.

Yes.. and avoid the big hopital chains too.. Kaiser, Sutter.. I'm hearing the same thing from my end of the state

This crossed my news feed this morning.. this might explain the feeling that the vaccine distribution has been uneven in the state of CA:
I operate a fertilizer manufacturing plant in rural central California, in a location that would be considered "disadvantaged" probably by almost any measure, and also one that has been heavily impacted by Covid. Most people here are essential employees -- there was never a sense of "lockdown" around here. There are also big prisons in the area that have contributed to the numbers.

My employees are all eligible for vaccines as ag workers. What I am seeing, at least for the past month, is that there is plenty of vaccine available around here. In fact, the clinics the county is making available to us seem to have a very hard time filling all their appointment slots.

After seeing there were a bunch of holdouts among my staff, I just got everyone together last week and started offering $100 Home Depot gift cards to anyone who brought in their vax card showing they got their first dose. I also told them that we wouldn't force them to get it, but we would be pretty unhappy if they did not get the vaccine, then got Covid, and that it was a workplace safety issue. I told them if they had questions about the vaccine or had reason not to get it, to come talk to me.

The resulting experience convinces me that their is a huge amount of misinformation in the community about getting the vaccine. People are afraid to get it because they know little about it and what it might do to their bodies. They jokingly referred to getting microchipped -- but my impression was it was really only half-joking, they don't truly think they are getting chipped, but that maybe there could be something else in there. People think that they can't be around their kids after getting the vaccine because their kids could catch covid from them. I'm sure there are other ridiculous rumors about the shot people believe but are embarrassed to tell me. Sadly, I suspect political leanings also have an effect. I encouraged some more people to get the vaccine, but there are still holdouts. Frustratingly, the holdouts seem to be the same people who are the most resistant to following covid prevention protocols.

So there is more to this than getting vaccine out to these communities. The state needs to do a MUCH better job at educating people, and I'm just not seeing that at all.

Now that is a great idea! I'm going to pass that on to some of my clients that have similar challenges getting their employees to take this seriously. Most of my clients have higher educations and they do. But one actually told me to remove my mask when I visited him at his home office. I looked him straight in the eye and said its my company's policy (I am a one man shop). Another I told, I wear my mask to protect you not me. Oh well.

I agree, North of you, there is more vaccine availability at the smaller clinics. The friends I have that work at hospitals are telling me they are struggling to get allocated more. And Ironically people that I know are looking to their primary care physician at that big healthcare provider as their first stop to getting a vaccine.

My son got his first Pfizer shot yesterday.. I have started looking for myself and my other kids at the smaller pharmacies in he area.

Have you been checking CVS? They have a list online of the locations that have it, updated pretty regularly. Also if you have Save Mart where you are check their website, people around here have had good luck with them.

GA finally opened it up for teachers, and I was able to get my 1st dose at CVS. My 2nd is scheduled in a couple weeks. Our schools have been open to in person since August. I work in an elementary school 3rd thru 5th grade, about 530 total students. We had one child who developed MIS-C after having covid. She was in PICU for quite a while, but is now back at school. Lots of kids, family members of students, staff tested positive during this time, but fortunately no serious issues. (besides the one MIS-C student). Thankful we are finally able to take the vaccine if we want it. Thankful we have almost made it a full school year, in person. Oh, back to the shot, like most others, I had a very sore arm.

Wisconsin is opening next week finally to anyone with a very wide range of medical conditions — I was able to secure an appointment for next Thursday. Sounds like the Moderna vaccine. Keeping my calendar clear for Friday in case of any reaction— but excited to do my part!

So is California.. and apparently they aren't really confirming what your medical condition is... I'm going give it a shot and put down my affliction is "Stickittothemaneosis"

It’s pretty much the honor system here, too. But honestly the list of “qualifying conditions” is big enough that if you don’t qualify you’ve already won the health lottery. :)

It really bothered me that a disease that primarily attacks the respiratory system doesn't have asthma listed as a qualifying condition in my state. Fortunately the bar for obesity is pretty low and my asthmatic sons qualified for vaccines with that condition.
